About Horse:
A Rocky is worth his weight in gold! A TALL, chocolate colored gelding is a needle in a haystack! DID YOU KNOW: The Rocky Mountain horse is a very rare breed and is currently recovering from the Livestock Conservatory Threatened list. One that is easy-going, gaited, and trail-ready is a priceless find.Does not require shoes but has been shod.
Pedigree:
By Backfield in Motion (Pence’s Blue Boy/Rebs Big shot/ Sam Clemon’s Tim) by a Kilburn Chocolate Sundown/Toco Sam/Sewell’s Sam mare. They say combining the Sam Clemons, Tim Line, and Sewell’s Sam line, you get a golden cross of gentleness and preferred gait!
Conformation:
He is the kind of horse that is physically built for work. He does not have a fault conformationally. For a Rocky, he is balanced head to toe. He is built and capable of being a hardy and handy horse or just one to haul you up many mountains! He can do the work of a quarter horse without the trot! He is very thick boned, long and tall, sound, durable legs/hooves and an extraordinary height for that taller individual in your life! He is downright cute with a pleasant expression.
Temperament:
This guy is sweet and interactive with his human. He loves his job. When it’s time to be groomed or hang out, he is a true companion! He is more on the slow-and-easy-going side as opposed to a fast mover on the trail. He’s intelligent and quickly grasps new concepts.
Riding:
His previous elderly owner states that he has been ridden all over KY (he states this is the best horse he’s had). Stands to be saddled and bridled. Moves himself to the mounting block to be mounted. I have found him to be easy on the trail with very few things causing him to be startled. He doesn’t move his feet or spin or bolt when startled by something; with brief assurance, he moves along willingly. He rides out alone or in groups without issues. He willingly splits from the group to ride side trails! Perfect for trail cutting. Excels in LD endurance up North! Excels on the ranch, opening gates and checking fences when ridden by himself. Easy and comfortable riding with large groups, covering all speeds and types of challenging new terrain!
Skills:
Stops and stands willingly, turning off the leg or rein softly. He can be slower to respond to leg and can be the opposite of fast. He does have fancy buttons, such as side pass, soft backing, turn on the fore, and turn on the hind. He is GENTLE but not always active with beginner aids-slow is good, and getting better at your aids is great. He lets you know when you get it! He’s ready to make your advanced beginner horseman dream a reality!
Gaits:
This is the horse that everyone is searching for. Will walk loose rein, Gait when asked-LOOSE REIN. Nice slow canter with a stride! If you’re new at riding a gaiting horse, he still performs a gait!
He has a puppy-dog personality and is easy to catch.
He’s accustomed to all types of other animals, such as whitetail deer and pheasants, popping out on the trail, or our cattle/chickens/dogs around the ranch.
