About Horse:
Dixie is a true trail deluxe gelding with the kind of experience, temperament, and versatility that everyone searches for but rarely finds. He is broke to a tarp, gunfire, dogs, ATVs, and traffic, and he stays calm, confident, and steady in any environment you put him in. Dixie crosses water without hesitation and will handle the roughest terrain you point him toward with total confidence. He neck reins smoothly, backs up soft and easy, and stands quietly to saddle and bridle every single time. He ground ties like a seasoned pro, is comfortable pulling anything you hook to him, and is easy to catch whether he’s in the field or the stall. In the time I’ve owned him, he has been an absolute dream to work with and to be around. He is truly one of the brokest horses I’ve ever swung a leg over and is anyone’s dream horse.Dixie has been on several camping trips and has been ridden on just about every trail here in Kentucky. He is sure-footed, dependable, and steady no matter the conditions. I’ve used him to check fences after our recent snow and ice storms, and he proved just how solid and careful he is with every step. There is nothing I’ve asked Dixie to do that he hasn’t willingly done. He has a beautiful, natural canter that is smooth and easy to ride, and I’ve hopped on him bareback many times to head out for an afternoon ride without a second thought. He truly is one in a million.
Dixie has also been used at public events, including most recently hosting the Western Kentucky University softball team for their media day. The cameras, lights, and crowd activity only put him in his element—he handled it all like the professional he is. I have put complete beginners on Dixie—people who had never ridden a horse before—and he takes care of them every single time. He is fully child-safe and youth approved, gentle enough for any level rider, and steady enough to build anyone’s confidence.
Dixie is 6 years old, stands 15’3 with a beautiful, stocky build, and truly is the full package—brains and beauty. He was started and trained by a 70-year-old horseman until I had the pleasure of getting him, which speaks volumes about the kind of foundation and temperament he has. He gets along wonderfully with dogs and is best friends with my hunting lab, Delta. I get calls all the time from people looking for a horse just like Dixie, and here he is—ready to be someone’s forever companion. I could go on all day about his many talents, but if I had to describe Dixie in one word, it would be this: Bombproof.
