About Horse:
DJH Thunder is his registered name we just call him DJ. He is a registered Morgan gelding standing at 15 hands tall. He is jet black so far, he stays black and doesn’t bleach out like most blacks do in the summer. He has a nice chunky build and a sharp looking head.DJ both RIDES & DRIVES! And he is safe and fun for both sports. Not only that but he has a puppy dog personality to boot! DJ is very easy to catch out in the pasture he is so very friendly he won’t leave you alone. If he sees you he normally comes running up to greet you. And you can work him 6 days a week straight and he’ll still catch himself that’s how friendly and personable he is.
He’s so personable he even loves Tramp the dog. I have caught him licking Tramps head if he gets too close. And he doesn’t care a bit about Tramps antics whenever that dog comes running full speed up behind us DJ NEVER spooks at it. And Tramp will also jump off the river/creek banks and make a big splash right behind DJ and he doesn’t mind. Tramp even loves this horse so much he goes out and tries to get DJ to play chase with him. So basically DJ acts like a big dog most of the time and he loves dogs too.
We bought DJ straight from the breeder so there are NO unknowns with him you get his full story. And currently DJ is 15 hands, but he’s still growing so he may get a little taller yet most Morgans are slow growing and don’t finish until 6yrs of age. DJ has more of that older style Morgan bloodlines that are so hard to come by. I love the older style because they just have a better personality, build, and brains. And DJ is really doing a good job of showcasing his breed.
DRIVING: He stands excellent for hitching, unhitching, stop signs/lights, and getting on/off the cart. He is absolutely Traffic SAFE. He does NOT care a bit about motorcycles, bikers, big trucks, and semis as you’ll see in his video. He is NOT easily spooked and makes a handy horse to have around if you want to drive into town to the store and back. He stands good at the hitching post and waits patiently.
And the thing I love most about this horse is… When I get back from driving DJ. He just stands perfectly still and NOT tied while I unhitch everything. Then I just take his harness off put it all in my cart. And the last piece I take off is his headstall because as soon as the headstall comes off he turns around and follows me with NO rope or halter on back to his pasture. That is how easy he is to handle.
RIDING: Talk about smooth he is VERY smooth. On a side note he actually gaits sometimes, but he mostly trots. So he is one of those RARE gaited Morgans. But he prefers to trot and we have not taught him to stay in a gait so he only gaits if he’s feeling like it. So I’m not selling him as gaited, but it is a possibility if someone wants to take the time to work on his gait.
But his trot is so smooth you would think he’s foxtrotting. I barely ever post to his trot it’s that smooth I pretty much sit it the whole way. And his canter is EXTREMELY smooth too.
He will go anywhere I point him up and down steep banks NO problems. He will cross logs, bridges, creeks, rivers, and loves to play in the lake. He really loves the water he sticks his nose under and likes to blow bubbles out. He really acts so much like a big puppy sometimes it’s funny.
VERY curious loves to check things out. Does NOT spook easily out on the trail and he’s quite used to Tramp the dog dodging in and out through the brush and running up fast behind him and passing him and anything that dog can do to spook a horse Tramp does. But DJ never spooks at him.
If you are a Morgan lover like myself you will love DJ. And if you are not a Morgan person I will warn you. Once you ride/drive DJ you’ll never go back to any other breed. It’s hard to find all the good qualities combined into one horse, but with DJ you have it. And you seriously won’t ever want a different type of horse after owning DJ he will spoil you. I hate to sell him, but I can’t keep him otherwise believe me he would not be up for sale.
And he has NO bad habits or vices. And again does NOT spook easily. There is only one thing he doesn’t like and that is manhole covers if you are driving him they look like a big hole. And honestly just about any horse I have ever driven through town doesn’t like those because they look like a hole to fall in so he’ll go around them just not overtop them. And that is the only thing he doesn’t like.
This guy has a lot of brains and sense for a horse his age and being this good he can only get better. There are very few young horses that I will drive. I’m a better rider than driver so if I drive they have to be SAFE and Sane and DJ I trust he has never given me any reason not to. And he is a steady trail partner out on the trail too.
