Everyone, meet “Ritz Time,” known around here as “Charlie.” Charlie is a three-year-old registered Tennessee Walking Horse gelding, standing just over 16 hands tall in keg shoes. He was started right here on the farm and has been under my care since he was 21 months old. This horse was brought along slowly and correctly, and he has been smart and willing with everything I’ve ever asked of him. Charlie has been ridden all over Kentucky and into parts of Tennessee. He’s a sure-footed, solid horse in the woods and will go anywhere you point him—whether it’s up a bluff or across a river, he steps right to it. He’s comfortable on solo rides or in a group and is happy leading, following, or riding in the middle on a light rein all day. Charlie has handled mud, snow, and night rides down country roads without issue. He is low in the pecking order out in the field and gets along well with other horses. In the stall, he’s quiet and easy to handle. He stands tied patiently and is good to tack up, groom, bathe, and clip. Charlie has a great flat walk and a smooth four-beat saddle gait when you want to move out. He also has a beautiful canter, along with good brakes and a soft handle. I’ve ridden him around dogs, cattle, trains, semi trucks, school buses, and all kinds of traffic. He’s not spooky or flighty, and I’ve put together a 19-minute video showing what he can do. In the video, you’ll see him handle bullwhips, fireworks, and lawn equipment with ease. I’ve led him with a lawn mower and even used a weed eater while sitting on his back. Charlie has also been shot off of and around and will stand to mount with or without a mounting block. He loads and unloads well and stands quietly for the farrier. Charlie has been a fun horse to have around. If you’re interested, feel free to reach out for more information. As always, we encourage and welcome anyone interested to set up an appointment and come see him in person.
